"Cihu Special Scenic Area Waters Illegal Nets Investigation, Handling, and Awareness" to Come into Effect Immediately at Kinmen National Park to Maintain the Aquatic Ecosystem and Prevent the Impact o

In order to maintain the aquatic ecosystem of Cihu Special Scenic Area and to prevent any impact of nets on normal bird activities, the "Cihu Special Scenic Area Waters Illegal Nets Investigation, Handling, and Awareness" will be jointly executed with immediate effect by the Kinmen National Park Headquarters and the Kinmen National Park Division - Fourth Division, Seventh Special Police Corps, National Police Agency, Ministry of Interior.
The Kinmen National Park Headquarters states that the Cihu Special Scenic Area at the northwestern corner of Kinmen is a wetland of national importance in the Kinmen region. A lake was built at this bay for military purposes, and it is a semi-closed salt water area. It is highly reproductive, suitable for aquaculture growth, and offers a rich source of food for flocks of birds and cormorants that visit in winter. More than 10,000 cormorants visit Kinmen in winter annually. They have become an important eco-tourism resource and have made Kinmen known as a hotspot for bird-viewing, and as an eco-conservation island.

In order to maintain the aquatic ecosystem and public safety of Cihu Special Scenic Area, the Kinmen National Park Division - Fourth Division, Seventh Special Police Corps, National Police Agency, Ministry of Interior shall immediately begin unscheduled removals of fish nets.
Kinmen National Park Headquarters would like to once again remind the public not to set up fish nets in the water to trap aquatic animals as this interferes with normal bird activities, and creates competition and damage to the food chain, which will change the ecosystem. We hope to care for and maintain the ecosystem in Kinmen, and let the rich ecological resources at Cihu become an excellent habitat for birds and aquatic animals.
